Tip 1 - Attention is the key to dog training! You must have the dogs attention before you can start any exercise or game. You need to learn how to be more important and fun than the leaf that blows by or the dog across the street.
Tip 2 - Practice makes perfect! The more a dog practices doing a behavior good or bad the better they get at it. As a handler you should try to stop bad behaviors from being practiced and learn how to encourage good behaviors. Reward the dog for good behavior and manage or ignore the bad behaviors.
Tip 3 - Communication! You need to have a way to communicate with your dog. The clicker is the best way to do this but a marker word like "Yes" will also work. You can teach the dog the click means a treat will follow and soon the dog will understand the behavior you are trying to teach them.
